In 1916 Antonio Zanussi, the blacksmith son from the small town of Pordenone in northern Italy established a factory and started producing cookers. In 1938, the company manufactured 6000 appliances per year. In 1946, Antonio passed away and the management was handed over to his sons Lino and Guido. Their industrial abilities have helped transform what was an industrial company in the local area into a major enterprise.

In the 1970s Zanussi began to diversify into professional kitchen equipment by buying F. Zoppas SpA which allowed them to join the market for large cookware compatible with all kinds of gas. In 1984, Electrolux, a Swedish manufacturer, bought Zanussi which helped boost their position in Southern Europe as well as Northern Europe in terms of both professional and domestic kitchen equipment.

In 1984 Zanussi was acquired by Electrolux, which provided Electrolux Swedish firm the opportunity to establish itself in Southern and Northern Europe for its major appliances. The acquisition of Zanussi also brought with it massive compressor manufacturing, which helped Electrolux to become the market leader for domestic and professional appliances. Zanussi's acquisition also gave Electrolux an extensive network in Italy of service firms.
